makes the web work for you.

Since May 4, 2009, I’ve been working with VSA Partners, where I write front-end code and consult on accessibility issues. (As far as I know, this doesn’t preclude you from working with me; see Textivism for more information about how to get in touch.)

Inspired by Jeffrey Zeldman, I’m doing a public redesign of this site. OK, it’s more an initial design than a redesign; and since I wrote this note in late April, it’s probably obvious that I’ve had too much other stuff going on to devote much time to this little vanity project

Welcome!

I’m an accessibility advocate, web developer, design technologist, and writer; I suppose this combination of skills means I should call myself an “Information Architect,” but that’s for another day. I specialize in HTML and CSS but also do extensive development with jQuery and Django.

I live in St. Charles, Illinois, with my amazing wife, Erica Schemper, our wonderful daughter, Zora, two furry cats, scores of books from my days as an English PhD student at Loyola University Chicago (I specialized in humanities computing, medieval literature, and textual criticism), and a boatload of adjectives. Feel free to discover more about me and what I do by checking out some of the following links:

And to the fine folks visiting from Jeremy Keith’s neck of the woods, I must confess that my clever smartassery is more about remembering the reported wit of Jeffrey Veen & Mr. Keith than anything truly original (at least in this case).
